Depression

Depression is known to be one of the most common mental health disorders. Associate Professor Monica O'Kelly describes depression as sadness and low mood that will last for sometime. There are different types of depression but they do share similar characteristics. People with depression may experience sleeping issues, eating issues, poor motivation, indecisiveness and struggle to enjoy their normal activities. Monica explains how tabling activities such as exercising, meeting up with friends, or even taking a bubble bath can be helpful in lifting your mood. Monica also touches on two factors that feed into depression; boredom and social isolation. Planning activities will help counteract these factors. Other strategies that can improve depression include establishing a good sleep routine and eating set meals. If you feel you are experiencing depression, consider contacting your GP for a referral.
