In this four-day introductory course, participants will develop a thorough theoretical understanding of cognitive behaviour therapy and the skills specific to this mode of therapy. Reference will be made to the work of Ellis and Beck. Teaching approaches will include lectures, modelling and a strong emphasis on skills practice in small groups with supervision. This is a course suitable for the beginner and for those wishing to refresh their skills. Provided that all requirements are met, the Certificate in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy will be awarded at the conclusion of the course.

Primary Certificate in Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy
Through collaboration with the Australian Institute for Rational Emotive Therapy, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy Australia is also able to offer the
Primary Certificate in Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy, which is recognised by the Albert Ellis Institute in New York.
Participants wishing to take part in this course are required to attend an additional session held on the second evening of the course from 5 - 8.30, cost $88.

Times: 9 am - 5 pm each day
Cost: Cost for 2010 workshops $1199 (GST inclusive) Early bird registration $1155
Structure of the days:
- 9 am – 12.30 - lecturer input
- 12.30 – 2 pm - lunch and practice session with partner
- 2 – 5 pm - skills supervision
Morning and afternoon tea and a light lunch are provided.
Participants will need to bring a recording device.
On the first day there is an introduction to CBT. On the three subsequent days, using CBT with depression, anxiety and anger are covered. Over the lunch break participants are expected to practice their skills in pairs. Experience tells us that this learning experience works best if participants use real issues. In the afternoon participants work in small groups of approximately 8 people with a trainer focussing on skills development.
