DESCRIPTION:

This is a one-day workshop designed for psychologists, psychiatrists, and mental health professionals, that covers theoretical and practical aspects of working with sexuality and couples' issues from a cognitive-behavioral perspective, including the ABCs of emotional disturbance.

It is designed to give basic CBT skills to practitioners in the use of basic disputing techniques, setting appropriate homework and rational emotive imagery.

OBJECTIVES:
  • To enhance participants knowledge of available mechanical, drug, and behavioral treatments of sexual disorders.
  • To enhance participants knowledge in the use of the CBT model for treatment of sexual dysfunctions including the ABCs of emotional disturbance and disputing techniques.
  • To enhance participants skills in the use of therapy techniques appropriate to sexual disfunction.




CONTENT
MORNING:
Introduction: Historical perspective
  • Ancient times: Mesopotamia, India, Greece & Rome, Middle ages
  • Modern times: Mead, Kinsey, Masters & Johnson.
Diagnosis:
  • Disfunctions (Disorders) vs. Deviations (Paraphilias)
  • The Walen-Roth cognitive model of sexual experience
Treatments:
  • Devices & Implants, and Drug treatments
  • Psychotherapy: Behavioural techniques
    • Squeeze technique
    • Sensate focus
    • Keggel exercises
    • Start-stop technique
Psychotherapy: Cognitive model
  • Identification of disfunctional thoughts, emotions and behaviours regarding sexuality and relationships (ABC's of emotional disturbance).
  • Disputing of idisfunctional thoughts, emotions and behaviours.
AFTERNOON:
Applied exercises within the ABCDE model:
  • Identifying the B-C connection.
  • Using basic disputing techniques to change disfunctional thoughts, emotions and behaviours about sexuality and couples.
Implementing specific therapy skills:
  • Rational-emotive imagery
  • Homework
